July 28 - The Natural Resources Board Special Advisory Committee for Hunter and Landowner Support of Effective Alternative Deer Population Control Methods plans to hold a short conference call at 7 PM CST Jul 28, 2009 to discuss the next steps for completing its recommendations to the NRB. The committee will be briefly updated on the status of online surveys activity. Participation during the phone meeting will only be available to Committee members and proxy members. The Committee plans on having a phone conference at 7 PM CST on July 28nd to be updated on the status of online survey activities and to begin deciding how best to complete the selection of the alternatives for its final recommendations to the NRB. The Committee will also decide the format of the final Saturday August 1, 2009 meeting where it will finalize its recommendations to prepare for its August 12, 2009 report tothe NRB.
The Committee's approach has been to develop and consider 'packages' that include both a season structure along with specific incentives for hunters, land owners, and public land managers to address and/or prevent deer herd over population conditions. The season structures created by different working groups were intended to encompass a variety of different versions of a main season, archery season(s), muzzle loader season(s), youth hunt, December season, and holiday seasons. The incentives included were intended to gather public input on methods to encourage hunter and landowner participation in efforts to reduce and/or prevent over population conditions.
The final step is to select the Committee's final recommendation on alternative methods by assembling supportive evidence that these will be effective and have the support of hunters and landowners.
The Committee's final in-person meeting will be August 1, 2009 at Stevens Point Wisconsin. More information will posted at August 1 Meeting for those interested.
